Brahmanbaria Local Guide

First-hand, practical notes on three things visitors ask about most: the district's GI-certified sweet, the best season for the Nasirnagar wetlands, and crossing into India at Akhaura.

Chhanamukhi — Brahmanbaria's GI-certified sweet

Chhanamukhi is a fried cottage-cheese sweet native to Brahmanbaria District that received Geographical Indication (GI) recognition in 2024 — official confirmation that it's a product distinct to this district. It's sold across sweet shops in Brahmanbaria Sadar and the wider district.

We're deliberately not naming specific shops here yet — we'd rather list vendors our community has actually confirmed than guess. If you know a Chhanamukhi shop worth recommending, this is exactly the kind of listing the business directory is for.

Best time to visit Nasirnagar Haor

The monsoon and post-monsoon months — roughly June to November — are the best time to visit Nasirnagar Haor, when the wetlands are at their fullest and boats become the main way to get around, giving the classic haor scenery. In the drier months (December to February), water recedes significantly and much of the haor turns to open farmland, so the wetland views are far less dramatic outside the wet season.

Crossing Akhaura Land Port as a foreigner

Akhaura Land Port is a working Bangladesh immigration and customs checkpoint on the border with Agartala, Tripura, India — not primarily a tourist site, but a genuine, active border crossing. Foreign travelers with a valid visa for the country they're entering can cross here. Bring your passport and visa, and check current immigration hours, fees, and document requirements before you travel, since border procedures can change without much notice.
